History

In 1933 Eddie Ruben acquired the Pantages Theater in Minneapolis and assigned young Joe L. Floyd to build and operate the Granada Theater in Sioux Falls. This launched a chain of successful theaters that extended throughout Minnesota, North Dakota and South Dakota. In 1952, when broadcaster Larry Bentson became a partner, the company set its sights on telecommunications by acquiring a radio station in Sioux Falls and a construction permit for a TV station. From this early framework emerged the progressive companies known today as Midcontinent Communications and
Midco Call Center.

Working together the entrepreneurial trio of Ruben, Floyd and Bentson established Midcontinent Media's enduring values, its focus on leading-edge technology and its unending search for promising business opportunities.
